Roaming profiles not deleted when logging off Citrix session

Posted in Citrix, vmware, Windows 2008 with tags , , , on November 7, 2011 by uniekdevries

When you have configured in a GPO that cached copies of roaming profiles should be deleted when logging off then you may notice that this setting doesn’t work because there is some process that prevents deleting the profile from the server.

When you troubleshoot the problem with a tool like Proces Explorer you find out that a file named hgfs.dat is still in use. If this is the case follow the steps explained in this blog.

Jason thanks for your advice!

How to change the service account for the Vmware Vsphere Virtualcenter server

Posted in vmware with tags , , on June 24, 2011 by uniekdevries

When you want to change the Service Account for running the Vsphere Vitualcenter server services, you have to do following:
Create a domain user account add it to local administrator group of the Virtualcenter server.
The next thing is to create a login for the Service Account on the SQL server that is hosting the database and give the user dbo_owner permission on the vmware vsphere database. The thirth step is to create a ODBC connection to the database. Therefore you have to log on under the system account and start the ODBC Administrator. When there is already a System DSN and the authentication settings are set to Windows Authentication then you can skip this step.
Once the ODBC connection is established you can stop the services, change the Service Account settings and restart the services again. You may get the message that the service account has been granted the “Logon as a service” right. When the action completed succesfully, you should see the following:
